Boone NC Dog Trainers
Holistic Dog Trainer Kelley Livingston
I’m Kelley Livingston, a Tellington TTouch Practitioner offering private dog behavior consultations, holistic dog services, Applied Zoopharmacognosy, and Calm Dog workshops for small groups of people and dogs.
I live in Boone, NC with my husband, and our 13 year old German Shepherd mix.
My Mission is to improve the lives of dogs and their people.
After exploring many dog training methods for helping my dog, Tellington TTouch’s philosophy of respect for animals resonated deeply. Discovering WHY an animal is behaving in a certain way by looking at the whole animal, and then seeing its’ perfection, is the cornerstone of the Tellington TTouch.
My dog training services focus on working with dogs and humans in a collaborative, connected, and cooperative way that deepens the relationship between dogs and their people. Learning to slow down, be more present, and enjoy calm and natural activities are important pieces of my approach.
Modern Dog Training is Changing Rapidly
Modern dog training looks far beyond obedience and compliance, to one of welfare, connection, and mutual support. We now see behaviors like reactivity, pulling on the leash, barking, digging, etc as a dog’s way of communicating with us, instead of something we need to control or fix.
We now ask questions like: How is this for you? How can I assist you? What do you prefer? This makes my heart leap with joy. Dogs deserve this. We deserve this. Dogs are with us, eager to engage, to participate, and to live life to the fullest. They are ready to show us what is truly important, and how we can remember to enjoy our lives.
Animals have the innate ability to guide their own health and well being by foraging on medicinal plants. Applied zoopharmacognosy brings the constituents of these plants to domesticated and captive animals in the form of dried herbs and algaes, hydrosols, essential oils, and infused oils. Giving an animal the freedom to guide its own welfare in this way is an excellent way to build a bond with your companion, and can have a profound effect on your relationship.
Supporting YOU is Important to Me
My dog services include you. I have a special interest in supporting you, the human. I know what it’s like to struggle with frustrating behavior, while simultaneously wanting the best life possible for your dog. It’s easy to feel inadequate, overwhelmed, and just plain judged, especially if your dog is displaying behaviors that our culture has labeled unacceptable. I know you are working hard and doing your best and I am here to support you, provide resources, and be an advocate for you and your dog.
Some of the Issues I Work With
Dog Barking, fearful dog, dog anxiety, leash pulling, reactivity, noise sensitivity, excitability and nervousness, over aroused greetings, jumping up, shyness, aging, arthritis, newly adopted dogs transitioning into new home, resistance to grooming, separation issues.
Dog Training Methods/Position Statement for Aversives and Punishment
I only use force-free, cruelty free, positive, kind, and science based, methods. I have signed and adhere to a strict Code of Conduct, as well as a Position Statement as outlined in the Initiative for Force Free Dog Training. I proudly display their logo on this website, with their permission.
